How Can I Get Rid of Yellow Teeth at Home?
Not everyone has the same tooth color. The shade of our tooth is predetermined genetically, and we all have our distinct genetic makeup. This is why some individuals have whiter teeth than others. However, several other factors that can either be chemical, environmental, congenital, infectious, and metabolic can affect the color of your teeth.
The chances of these factors influencing or changing your original teeth color are higher, particularly during your early childhood because during this phase, your teeth are still forming and vulnerable to color-changing factors.
However, as you grow, several other factors, such as poor oral hygiene, bad lifestyle choices, and even age, contribute to how the color of your teeth changes over time.
The color of your teeth can either improve your smile and enhance your overall look or not. A clean white healthy-looking dentition makes your smile appear brighter and makes you more attractive, but the same cannot necessarily be said for a dentition with stains or discoloration.
There are several ways to get rid of yellow teeth at home. These natural home remedies are an alternative to in-office dental teeth whitening procedures. It is also a cost-effective way to whiten your teeth and brighten your smile.
Here are three (3) natural at-home teeth whitening solutions our dentist in Pasadena recomends.
1. Brush with Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide:
Sodium Bicarbonate, commonly referred to as Baking Soda, is a mild abrasive that can help scrub off yellow stains from your teeth. For a more effective result, you can use it in combination with hydrogen peroxide.
To use this remedy, make a smooth paste by mixing one tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. You can use this mixture to brush your teeth for at least twice a week.
Additionally, the use of a toothpaste that contains both baking soda and hydrogen peroxide might help to reduce stain and brighten your teeth. This was proven in a 2012 study in which toothpaste containing baking soda and hydrogen peroxide was effective in removing yellow stains.
2. Practice Oil Pulling:
Oil pulling is the practice of swishing healthy natural oils such as coconut, sesame, and sunflower oil in your mouth to reduce the build-up of dental plaque, which causes yellow stains. Coconut oil is a popular choice because it has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiparasitic properties.
To use this remedy, take one tablespoon of coconut oil, allow it to melt in your mouth (if solid), vigorously swish it in your mouth by continuously pushing and pulling through your teeth. Continue swishing for 10 to 20 minutes. Afterward, spit the oil out, rinse your mouth and proceed to brush your teeth for effective results.
3. Use Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple Cider Vinegar has an active ingredient - Acetic Acid, which enables it to kill harmful bacteria. Its use as a mouthwash kills harmful bacteria that cause dental plaque, and this prevents teeth discoloration.
Acetic Acid has also been observed to erode the enamel of teeth. For this reason, you mustn't use it frequently and dilute it properly beforehand. To use, dilute one tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar in water, swish it vigorously by pushing and pulling the liquid in your mouth for some minutes. Spit it out and rinse your mouth properly with clean water.
The at-home teeth whitening solutions mentioned above are just some of the natural remedies you can use to help get rid of yellow teeth. To garrantee results you need to consider in-office teeth whiteing.
